Meet your Team Chimera World Championships of Warhammer Representatives!

Meet your Team Chimera World Championships of Warhammer Representatives!

The World Championships of Warhammer is an event that is held in Atlanta, Georgia for the 3rd annual WCW event! The event runs from November 6th to 9th, and this year we have a few members of the competitive Warhammer 40k & Kill Team Chimera Gaming Teams attending after winning their Golden Tickets this past year. Here we will be introducing our team, as well as providing updates on how the team is doing as the event goes on!

*DAILY UPDATES: Be sure to bookmark this page and come back day-to-day November 6th to 9th for updates! The event can also be followed round-by-round on the Best Coast Pairings pages for the events, which should be completely active in the days before the event!

Day 1 (Nov 5) - Arrival & Registration

The team has arrived!  Registration has started and with that comes some cool swag, our missions for the weekend, and a nice preview of the venue for the weekend.  Everyone has settled into our hotel rooms & AirBNB for the week and ready for a solid 8-9 rounds of Warhammer 40k / 10-11 rounds of Kill Team!

Day 2 (Nov 6) - Round 1 & 2 / Armies on Display

Opening Ceremonies have commenced and the event is underway!  Here's how the team is doing after the first two rounds:

40k

TJ 2-0 / Troy 1-1 / Akash 1-1 / Jakeb 1-1 / John 0-2 / Ryan 0-2

Kill Team

Voyin 3-0 / Jaspoon 2-1 / Max 1-2

Still 2 team members undefeated and eligible to proceed to the top bracket at the end of the day tomorrow!  Let's see how they keep up as they move through the rankings! Canada is overall the most cohesive country present at the even thanks to our Jersey coordination and I couldn't be more proud of our country for getting in on this!

In addition to the games, the Armies on Display event happened after the games, as players set up their beautiful armies to be judged.

Day 3 (Nov 7) - Round 3 & 4

No extra photos today, just a small update as it was a pretty busy day with our last 2 rounds deciding where we are seeded tomorrow, in addition to the Live Preview Show in the evening (all hail Nekrosor Ammentar).

40k

TJ 2-2 / Troy 2-2 / Jakeb 2-2 / Akash 1-3 / Ryan 1-3 / John 0-4

Kill Team

Voyin 4-2 / Jaspoon 4-2 / Max 3-3

Alas, no top cut for anyone on Team Chimera, but everyone has a chance to finish at the top of each of their win brackets in the next 4 rounds!

Day 4 (Nov 8) - Round 5 & 6

The Worlds Bracket phase started today, where everyone splits off and play against people with the same record across the 2 days (Top 16 / 4-0 <who lost the shadow round> with 3-1 / 2-2 / 1-3 / 0-4).  Nothing new to report today with photos, but will be back tomorrow with some photos from the finals and closing ceremonies!  For now, here's how our players are doing overall:

40k

Troy 4-2 / TJ 3-3 / Jakeb 3-3 / Akash 2-4 / Ryan 2-4 / John 1-5

Kill Team

Voyin 5-3 / Jaspoon 5-3 / Max 5-3

Day 5 (Nov 9) - Round 7 & 8

The final stretch!  Everyone is honestly exhausted but having a fantastic time.  Four days of Warhammer at the highest level is both exciting and mentally draining.  RIchard Siegler of the USA/Art of War pulled off a fantastic finals win against Liam VSL, who is arguably the best player in the world at the moment. Here's how our team did along with a couple last-minute photos!

40k (405 players)

Troy - 132nd at 5-3

TJ - 149th at 5-3

Jakeb - 235th at 3-5

Akash - 292nd at 4-4

Ryan - 315th at 3-5

John - 379th at 3-5

Kill Team (138 players)

Voyin - 26th at 6-3-1

Jaspoon - 36th at 6-4 & Best in Faction Ratlings

Max - 53rd at 6-4

Thanks for joining us on this adventure, and hope the team can snag some tickets for next year's WCW which has been hinted at being in a different country that the haven't disclosed yet - Canada maybe?

Team Chimera has been organizing and competing at regular events for approximately the past 2 years at events throughout Southern Ontario, and this will be the first time the team is travelling out-of-province to compete at an event!  While the event is a singles competition, the World Championships are all about sharing a great 4-days playing alongside people from your own country to compete for the top!  While there is a single winner for the event, points are tallied across various aspects of the hobby to determine which country comes out on top.

Chimera Gaming has also decided to be one of the sponsors for the entirety of Team Canada alongside Red Dragon in Ottawa for every game system in Atlanta (Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar, Kill Team & Warhammer Underworlds), providing each player with a Jersey to represent our country!

Without further ado, let’s get into introducing our representatives for this year with a Q&A with each player!

TJ Raymore
Owner-Chimera Gaming/Playing Member of Team Chimera 40k

When did you start playing Warhammer 40,000?

I painted a lot when I was a kid but only had a couple of games with my friend. We probably didn't play the game correctly and just had fun getting our miniatures on the tabletop. I started playing again in 10th edition.

How long have you been playing competitively?

When 10th edition launched we started to actually test and prep for events as a team.

What factions do you own and/or play?

Death Guard

Which faction and detachment are you bringing to the World Championships?

Virulent Vectorum Death Guard.  Mortarion is a beast and I love the aggressive ability of the detachment which suits my playstyle the best.

What are you most excited about going to represent Canada at the World Championships?

Seeing all the Canadian Players repping our Chimera Gaming Logo on the Jerseys

What are your expectations for yourself for this event?

My goal is to win as always, my expectation is a positive record.  I enjoy the competition and pushing myself to be the best.

Ryan Pearce
Employee-Chimera Gaming/Team Chimera 40k

*Record Scratch* *Freeze Frame* Yep, that’s me.  You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation…..

When did you start playing Warhammer 40,000?

3rd Edition with a break between 5th edition and 9th edition.

How long have you been playing competitively?

Since October 2023

What factions do you own and/or play?

Necrons, Grey Knights

Which faction and detachment are you bringing to the World Championships?

Starshatter Arsenal Necrons.  They have incredible speed and durability as well as packing a punch.  They don’t have very many units on the board but they excel at controlling objectives and surgically tearing the opposing army apart.

What are you most excited about going to represent Canada at the World Championships?

Meeting and playing against wargamers from all over the world while playing beside my friends and representing my country at the highest level of competition available, in addition to representing the store that hired me and gave me the much needed change I needed in my life.

What are your expectations for yourself for this event?

It would be great to have a final record of 5-3 as I went 4-4 last year, but my main goal is just to have a fun week off with my friends.

Jakeb
Team Chimera 40K

“Shout out to the team for carrying me to second at Studs & Snotlings to give me this opportunity!”

When did you start playing Warhammer 40,000?

In 2020

How long have you been playing competitively?

Since 2021

What factions do you own and/or play?

Grey Knights, Chaos Knights, Eldar

Which faction and detachment are you bringing to the World Championships?

Warpbane Task Force Grey Knights. I think they're an underdog in the current meta but will be underestimated for sure, damage output and re-rolls are high and the army as a whole has huge potential.

What are you most excited about going to represent Canada at the World Championships?

I’m most excited to see how other metas shape up vs one another. The layouts Games Workshop uses have been frustrating to learn compared to the usual WTC layouts we are used to playing on in our area, but has made it refreshing to play. Also excited we all qualified as a team so we all got to go together.

What are your expectations for yourself for this event?

Praying for an even record (4-4), but overall just going to have fun. This will probably be the only World Championships I'll attend.

“I love this community so much. Everyone has welcomed me with open arms and I wouldn't trade any of these fun moments for anything.”

When did you start playing Warhammer 40,000?

Start of 10th edition (I purchased the Leviathan box from Chimera Gaming🥹)

How long have you been playing competitively?

Approximately October 2024

What factions do you own and/or play?

Space Marines

Which faction and detachment are you bringing to the World Championships?

Anvil Siege Force Ravenguard (Space Marines). The main (only) reason for this is because I know for a fact that every single one of my upcoming opponents will be a far better player than me who's had a vast amount of time to practice. My only hope is to play something less popular and hope that when we get to the table, they are as confused as I am.

What are you most excited about going to represent Canada at the World Championships?

My only goal for this trip and experience is to build unforgettable memories with my buddies. How I, or any of us perform, will just be a bonus

What are your expectations for yourself for this event?

To fail every single charge

“Check the list name on BCP!” (https://www.bestcoastpairings.com/event/KhIQLAymD8Ay)

When did you start playing Warhammer 40,000?

Started playing very casually in 7th edition.

How long have you been playing competitively?

I played local level tournaments in 8th edition, but took a break during 9th. I started playing competitively around the Summer/Fall of 2024.

What factions do you own and/or play?

Adeptus Mechanicus, Leagues of Votann, Necrons, Aeldari, Drukhari.

Which faction and detachment are you bringing to the World Championships?

Hunter Cohort Adeptus Mechanicus.. I'm running them because they are my main army, they have really good play on Games Workshop terrain layouts, and most importantly because I have been waiting yeaaaaarsss for my favorite toaster boys to be strong

What are you most excited about going to represent Canada at the World Championships?

Getting to know and spend time with a lot of good people and have some fun and competitive games.

What are your expectations for yourself for this event?

I am expecting to end the event with an even or positive win rate, and hope to have a lot of fun playing what (I expect) is a rather unexpected AdMech list.

Akash Vaswani
Team Chimera 40k

When did you start playing Warhammer 40,000?

September 2022

How long have you been playing competitively?

Studs & Snotlings in Fall 2023 was my first big tournament

What factions do you own and/or play?

Adeptus Custodes, World Eaters, Tau, Knights

Which faction and detachment are you bringing to the World Championships?

Berzerker Warband World Eaters. I love playing melee pressure style lists and Berzerker Warband has a strong balance of movement tricks and damage when played right. My list specifically requires a bit more set up and planning than other melee pressure lists for its damage to actually convert but it has big punch up potential. Finally, the detachment and army have a good fall back game plan if things aren't going my way in the mid game - the high movement always gives me the option to throw all my remaining models at my opponent and let the dice take the wheel.

What are you most excited about going to represent Canada at the World Championships?

I'm pumped to play against some of the top players in the world.

What are your expectations for yourself for this event?

I'm hoping to go 2-6, and generally have a good time in Atlanta

Voyin Jaric
Team Chimera Kill Team

“I’m thrilled to see how large Kill Team is becoming and to see all the new and innovative tactics that people come up with! Can’t wait to get to krumpin’!”

When did you start playing Kill Team?

I started playing Warhammer 40k in 7th edition but Kill Team in 2021 with the relaunch.

How long have you been playing competitively?

I’ve been playing competitive Kill Team since 2022.

What teams do you own and/or play?

Too many to count but love Tau!

For Kill Team I love Wreckas, Raveners, and Angels of Death since the Pathfinders have been nerfed and will be rotating out. But I’ll have to play any team at least once!

Which team are you bringing to the World Championships?

I originally chose Wreckas because I thought they’d be a fun and low stress play style. Since playing them though they’ve proven themselves to be a deceptively strong team and the recent data slate just made them even better!

What are you most excited about going to represent Canada at the World Championships?

Being part of the inaugural team last year was amazing! I’m looking forward to seeing some international friends I made last year and to be at the World Championships with many friends who should have been there last year! The camaraderie and level of play is unmatched!

What are your expectations for yourself for this event?

This year is more about fun and enjoying what games come my way! If I happen to win a few games along the way I won’t be upset!

Jaspoon
Team Chimera Kill Team

When did you start playing Kill Team?

2003 was when I first got into Warhammer! Kill team in 2021

How long have you been playing competitively?

On and off for 2 years

What teams do you own and/or play?

Started with Phobos, now Ratlings

Which team are you bringing to the World Championships?

Ratlings

What are you most excited about going to represent Canada at the World Championships?

To show other countries how much high level Kill Team is played in Canada and specifically the Great Lakes Area!

What are your expectations for yourself for this event?

Being one of the most competitive countries at the event!

Max Honiball
Team Chimera Kill Team

When did you start playing Kill Team?

I started back in the summer of 2023, and haven't looked back since!

How long have you been playing competitively?

As an ex Magic: the Gathering grinder, the competitive gremlin in me was very well established. As such, my on-ramp to playing competitively started with my first game to be honest!

What teams do you own and/or play?

My main factions have included: Phobos Strike Team, Nemesis Claw, Fellgor Ravagers, and Goremongers (with a healthy smattering of other teams for good measure)

Which team are you bringing to the World Championships?

I'll be running Fellgor Ravagers. I think the competitive community is sleeping on them right now, and their matchup spread is pretty flat, with the opportunity to have some very (favourably) polarised matchups in the right situation. Another big factor in my choice is just how forgiving their Frenzy faction rule makes them. In a long tournament like WCW, you're bound to have some bad rolls come your way, and getting to have 'one last go' with a frenzied goat is huge and gives excellent bad dice protection!

What are you most excited about going to represent Canada at the World Championships?

I narrowly missed out on qualifying last year, and I'm thrilled to be able to go this year. We've got a great community and a strong contingent representing it this year, so I'm excited to show the world what the Great Lakes scene can do. Let's bring some glory back!!

What are your expectations for yourself for this event?

Great games, great hangs, and a strong showing from our Canadian contingent!

And that wraps up on our introduction with each player.

Stay tuned:

I will be updating the page at the top

here with updates each day, likely towards the end of each day, so tune in throughout the weekend for updates from the team!
