Top 10 Commander Cards in Realms of Middle Earth

Top 10 Commander Cards in Realms of Middle Earth

Tales of Middle Earth takes us on a journey through the epic fantasy world of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Releasing June 23rd (but available for pick up on June 16th) this set explores new and exciting themes, while introducing a variety of potent cards for the Commander format.

Featuring many flavourful Legendary Creatures and powerful cards, this is one set you don’t want to miss if you’ve passed on the last few.

Let's dive into the top 10 Commander cards from the intriguing Tales of Middle Earth!

1. Flowering of the White Tree

Flowering of the White Tree is a significant upgrade over most anthems we see in mono White. Giving additional Power and protection to Legendary Creatures is not something to overlook. Pair that with a lower mana value and it blows out Glorious Anthem and similar versions.

2. Reprieve

Reprieve may not be a true counterspell, but its value lies in its ability to replace itself in your hand. This card can disrupt your opponent's plans while ensuring you do not lose card advantage. In a format like Commander where card advantage is key, this pseudo-counterspell is a worthy inclusion.

3. Dawn of a New Age

This card provides consistent and reliable card advantage, particularly in Creature-heavy decks. It parallels Phyrexian Arena in its ability to draw cards over time, but the Creature-focused nature of Dawn of a New Age and reduced cost makes this a slam dunk for battle cruiser. A steady flow of card draw is crucial in the Commander format, which makes this a valuable addition to any deck that runs a few Creatures.

4. Press the Enemy

Press the Enemy serves as a removal spell with a twist. It allows you to cast an Instant or Sorcery for free based on the mana value of the removed target. This card not only disrupts your opponent's plans, but also provides you with mana advantage and the opportunity to cast powerful spells for free.

5. Spiteful Banditry

Spiteful Banditry provides a Treasure-generating effect when Creatures your opponent controls die. While its once per turn trigger limits the potential for explosive turns, as long as it sticks around the trickle of Treasure will be sure to put you ahead over the long run.

6. Delighted Halfling

Delighted Halfling acts as a mana dork specifically for your Commander, while also providing uncounterable protection for your Commander akin to Cavern of Souls. This makes it an excellent addition to almost all Commander decks, but expect it to generate a lot of heat.

7. Last March of the Ents

This card is off the wall. Yes, it does cost 8 mana to cast, but it’s uncounterable and if you can cast it when you have a big Creature in play it is going to lead to some crazy blowouts. I can’t wait to cast this with a 7 power Creature in play and drop two to three more big baddies for free.

8. Glamdring

Glamdring is a potent addition to any spellslinger deck, allowing you to cast an Instant or Sorcery spell for free as long as the mana value is lower than the combat damage dealt. This can lead to substantial value and unexpected plays, giving you a huge tempo swing.

9. Horn of the Mark

Horn of the Mark is a strong card for any deck focusing on attacking. Being able to dig into the top five cards of your library and put a Creature into your hand whenever you attack can keep your hand stocked with threats, maintaining your offensive momentum.

10. Mithril Coat

If you’ve played with Darksteel Plate, you’re going to love this next card. Mithril Coat is a strict upgrade when focusing on Commander protection. You can Flash it in. There’s no equip cost if it targets a Commander. You can even use it as a Darksteel Plate for other Creatures with a slightly higher equip cost. I’d highly recommend getting one of these.

There we have it! The top 10 Commander cards you should pick up from Tales of Middle Earth

I’m personally excited to see another set feature some seriously strong cards. Be sure to check out the full set, as there are many cards that fit in niche strategies along with a ton of support for Legendary-Creatures matter and some favourite Typal Creatures like Elves and Humans (there’s also more Green Dwarves!).

There are many roads to follow and many stories that will be written based on some of these new cards.
